Recipe Ingredients

This choc chip cookie dough is no ordinary cookie dough. You’ll see that the ingredients don’t include raw eggs (making it totally safe to eat without the risk of salmonella) and I also show you how to heat-treat the flour to kill harmful bacteria. Check out the full details in the recipe card below.

  • unsalted butter – for better control of the salt level. This is my go-to choice for most baked treats
  • sugar – I’ve used both white sugar (for sweetness) and light brown sugar (for moisture)
  • milk – brings the cookie dough ingredients together
  • vanilla extract – easily use homemade vanilla extract for the best flavor
  • flour – all-purpose flour that is heat-treated first before being added to the rest of the ingredients
  • salt – enhances flavors
  • chocolate chips – you can also use alternatives, such as chopped chocolate bars. White chocolate chips or mini chocolate chips would also be great

How To Make Edible Cookie Dough

Start by heat-treating the flour. We do this by spreading the untreated flour on a baking sheet, lined with parchment paper, and bake for 5 minutes at 350°F/180˚C (conventional oven). Allow it to cool slightly before moving on.

Cream the butter and sugar and continue to combine the rest of the ingredients, including the treated flour, as per the recipe card until a crumbly dough forms.

Lastly, mix in the chocolate chips well and knead the dough by hand for it to come together. At this stage, you can either shape the dough into small balls or store it in an airtight jar or container to store for later.
