Absolutely! Homemade pizza dough gives the rolls a wonderful flavor and texture, but refrigerated store-bought pizza dough works just as well when you’re short on time.
Pizza is one of my favorite meals, partly because there are so many different ways to enjoy it. You can change up the toppings, of course, but also the shape. These super easy homemade pizza rolls are just another great way to enjoy pizza.
The fun part about these pizza rolls is that they are the perfect way to celebrate pizza night. You can vary the toppings or just keep them as is. As with all pizza recipes it is super easy to adjust the ingredients to whatever you have in the fridge or whatever you like on your pizza. I kept mine pretty basic but I’ll give some additional topping options below.
Now the fun part about these pizza rolls is that you can use all your favorite pizza toppings. The only thing you need to take into account is the fact that you will need to roll them, so don’t use big chunks or they won’t roll as easily.
Once you’ve prepared or bought the pizza dough, the rest is super easy. Roll out the dough to a rectangle measuring around 14 x 16 inch (35 x 40 cm). Spread the tomato sauce over the dough but make sure to leave a small border along one of the long edges. That will make it easier to roll the dough.
Arrange the prosciutto slices over the sauce and sprinkle both of the cheeses on top. Finish by adding the basil leaves.
Now you start rolling the dough from the long side which is covered in sauce. Loosely roll it into a log and make sure to pinch the seam close so the rolls keep together when you’re slicing it.
You can slice it using a pizza cutter or a serrated knife. Slice it into approximately 15 pieces but make sure it is enough to fit into your baking dish.
Make sure to lightly brush the baking dish with some oil and arrange the rolls inside. You do want to keep a bit of space between the individual pieces as they will rise while baking.
Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
Of course pizza rolls are best when served right away, but if you have leftovers you can keep it tightly wrapped in the fridge for 1-2 days. Reheating the next day is best done in the oven.
Yes you can freeze pizza rolls properly wrapped or stored in a freezer safe container for 2-3 months. Reheat them in the oven once defrosted.
It’s no secret that I love pizza flavor so I try and make new pizza recipes often! A few easy favorites:

Yes. Assemble the rolls, place them in the baking dish, cover tightly, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking. Let them sit at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes before placing them in the oven.
These pizza rolls are easy to customize. Try pepperoni, cooked Italian sausage, mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, spinach, or different cheeses. Just avoid using overly wet ingredients, as they can make the dough soggy. Also make sure that the ingredients used can still be rolled up easily. No big chunks of anything!
Of course! Simply leave out the prosciutto and replace it with vegetables like mushrooms, roasted peppers, spinach, zucchini, or olives for a delicious vegetarian version.
