If you have an abundance of figs from a tree in your garden, this is a perfect easy recipe for making delicious fig jam!
Preparation10 minutes
Cooking15 minutes
Total25 minutes
Servings: 5 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 kg fresh figs washed
  • 500 grams jam sugar see tip below for different ingredients
  • Juice of 1 lemon

Equipment

  • jam jars

Instructions

  • Trim the tops and bottoms off the figs and discard. Cut the figs into pieces and place them in a large pot. Add the jam sugar and lemon juice.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring regularly. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat slightly and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, until the figs are soft.
  • Mash the jam with a potato masher for a chunky texture, or blend it smooth with an immersion blender.
  • Ladle the hot jam into the jars and seal immediately. Turn the jars upside down to create a vacuum seal.
  • Let the jars sit upside down for about 5 minutes, then turn them upright and allow the jam to cool completely.

Tips

  • Once cooled, clean the jars and label them with the date.
  • If replacing the jam sugar with regular granulated sugar and pectin, use 2,5 cups/500 gram of sugar and one packet of powdered pectin (like Sure-Jell)
How to store
Store the jars in a cool, dry place. Once opened, keep in the refrigerator. Properly sealed jars will last up to one year.
