Are blackberries in season? If so, then you really must try this trifle dessert with blackberries. It's incredibly easy to make, and the blackberries steal the show!
In a bowl, combine the whipping cream, mascarpone, and sugar. Mix on low speed until the mascarpone is fully incorporated and there are no lumps. Then, mix on high speed until the mixture is stiff.
Grate a quarter of the lemon zest (note: only use the yellow part; the white part is bitter) and mix it into the cream with a squeeze of lemon juice.
Taste the cream mixture to see if it is to your liking.
Cut the cake slices into equal cubes, then divide half of the cubes between four dessert glasses. Spoon half of the lemon cream over the cake cubes in the glasses and top with four blackberries per dessert glass.
Divide the remaining cake cubes and lemon cream between the glasses. Finish each dessert with two blackberries and a sprinkling of powdered sugar, if desired.
